Jack Martini
40 personalities. 1 body. 0 balance.
Hey! Welcome to my comic! Let me introduce myself: my name is Jack Martini and I am a cardiac surgeon, a mad scientist, a geopolitics expert, a chef, but above all… a patient at the Fittanube psychiatric hospital.
Let me explain a bit better: I suffer from dissociative identity disorder, and inside me live — for now — thirty-nine other personalities, all more or less disturbed and each convinced that a dark shadow lies somewhere in their past.
Take Otto, for example. He’s a mad scientist who speaks with a very strong German accent. He has a brilliant mind, but a rather worrying lack of concern for the consequences of his inventions. He’s convinced that he accidentally set his best friend on fire after one of his experiments went terribly wrong. I tried to explain to him that it wasn’t actually his best friend but a cardboard cutout of Tom Cruise, but there was simply no way to make him change his mind.
I could go on and describe every detail and nuance of my personalities, but perhaps it’s better if you discover them for yourselves.
Why do I know them so well? That should be obvious: I’m the keeper personality. At least, that’s what my psychiatrist says—and honestly, I tend to agree. I’m basically a babysitter, making sure the other thirty-nine don’t take control and cause disasters that I’d eventually have to clean up.
The problem is that sometimes, because of what seems like an insignificant external stimulus, one of the personalities slips out of my control and takes over. At that point, there’s nothing I can do but watch.
If Otto, Derek, Marko, and all the others didn’t exist, I certainly wouldn’t be collaborating with the Fittanube police. Crazy, right? The police department is trying to revolutionize their methods of fighting crime, which is why they figured that forty ruthless criminals in a single body might be an indispensable resource for solving some of the bizarre cases that are increasingly becoming a plague for the city.
Think of me as a consultant — just without the suit and tie, and without the obsession with Bitcoin.
